Sycamore Cove is just a short scenic drive up PCH. The cove itself is the beachside of Point Mugu State Park. It is unlike any other beach in the area, so grab your camera! The cove features a couple miles of a short and sandy beach. There is unique and interesting rock structures that enclose the area perfect for climbing and exploring. Also unique to the beach is the many pieces of knotty drift wood scattering the sand. This particular beach is popular for swimming and surf fishing. And if work must be done, free public Wi-fi is available within 150 feet of the ranger station. An added benefit of the cove is the shelter from the wind making it the perfect place to have a picnic or a beach party. There are public use picnic tables, bonfire pits (s’mores!), and barbeque grills (perfect for the catch of the day!) right on the sand! Sycamore cove is also one of the only beaches in Los Angeles County that allows alcohol. So be safe! If you’re planning a late evening instead of driving PCH back to campus reserve a campsite in walking distance across the street at Sycamore Canyon State Park!
Whatever your reason, whether it be for a beach day, a romantic picnic, or a bonfire, Sycamore Cove is a must see/must do!
[Gates close at 10pm, you have to be off the beach by then unless you are camping at the park across the street! Cost for day use is $10 per vehicle for parking and requires self registration (don‘t try to sneak by without paying, rangers patrol the lot and tickets are $64.00!), so carpool!]
